Ice cream might just be the world’s most beloved dessert — and its most versatile. There’s classic vanilla. Creamy chocolate. Maple studded with walnuts. Strawberry accented with bright chunks of fresh fruit, and endless other flavors. Ice cream served in a cup, on a waffle cone, spun into a milkshake, or sandwiched between two cookies. And the list goes on and on!

When it comes to this icy favorite, you can savor all these and more in Cabarrus County. Here’s the inside scoop on where to get ice cream in Cabarrus.

Old Fashioned Fun at The Percantile & Creamery

Concord

Ice cream is just one of the many tempting delicacies on offer at The Percantile & Creamery, a throwback sweets parlor. The slow-churned ice cream at The Percantile comes courtesy of Blue Bell — a Texas brand dating to 1907 — in classic flavors like Dutch chocolate, cotton candy, red velvet cake, cherry and vanilla. Get yours scooped onto a soft, warm waffle or pair it with the shop’s homemade brownies or chocolate chip cookies. The shop also offers a giant ice cream sundae perfect for sharing.

This small batch bakery in the heart of Downtown Mount Pleasant also offers several different flavors of creamy Blue Bell Ice Cream. Enjoy yours in a cup or a cone, or grab another dessert to accompany your selected scoop. The Bakery at Mount Pleasant has fresh, homemade baked goods of all kinds and the summer season brings out some of the best flavors.

Stop by to savor everything from ice cream cones and milkshakes to cool banana pudding, cupcakes topped with fresh berries, festive cookies, and more.

Ice Cream and Fudge at My Sister’s Place

Kannapolis

The charm of My Sister’s Place is found in everything from the cozy courtyard that greets guests to the shop’s family-friendly vibe. Owned by a pair of sisters whose passion for all things sweet formed the genesis of the store, My Sister’s Place serves 24 flavors of Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream, a Midwest brand known for their extra creamy product. The kiddos will love Superman, a colorful blend of lemon, strawberry and bubble gum ice cream. The sisters also sell homemade fudge from locally owned NC Fudge. Try a hunk of turtle fudge.

The Sweetest Thing Ice Cream Shoppe

Kannapolis

Another family-run Kannapolis locale for ice cream is The Sweetest Thing. This ice cream shop serves their homemade ice cream and Italian ice along with specialty treats like waffle cones coated in chocolate, sprinkles and candies, and new baby banana splits for the perfectly sized sweet snack.

The Sweetest Thing Ice Cream Shoppe also takes their offerings on the road with their mobile ice cream trailer and truck. Catch them at nearby special events and festivals for a frozen treat on the go.

Milkshakes and More at Coffee & Cream

Concord

As its name suggests, Coffee & Cream marries two food faves under one roof. First, the ice cream. More than 30 flavors — any of which can be made into a milkshake — run the gamut from fruity (peach, black cherry) and nutty (pistachio, peanut butter cup) to decadent (brown butter bourbon truffle, blueberry cheesecake, banana pudding). Top your scoop with nuts, gummy bears or sprinkles.

Next, the java. The coffee menu boasts traditional flavors such as hazelnut and mocha, but for something more daring, there’s coconut, raspberry or lavender, and English toffee or toasted marshmallow.

Popsicles and Ices at Papa Robb’s

Concord

The tropics come alive in Concord at Papa Robb’s Paradise Ice. The family-owned snack shack transports visitors to the islands with a tropical-inspired menu of ice cream, banana splits, milkshakes, floats, sundaes, slushies, freezes — a frozen drink made with Italian ice — and popsicles. Order standards like cookie dough or mint chocolate chip, or lean into the theme and try beachy flavors like coconut, lime, mango, strawberry and watermelon. The umbrella-clad picnic tables are painted in hues of pink, teal, lime and tangerine, mirroring the colors of Papa Robb’s icy treats.  Ice Cream and Fudge at My Sister’s Place
