Located in the Heart of The Carolina Gold Rush Territory, The Montgomery Store, built around 1843,  is one of the few remaining buildings left from the gold mining era of the early 1800’s when gold mining was a way of life in this region.  The first gold discovery in what is now Gold Hill, NC was in 1823.  Gold Hill Mines Historic Park is home to the Barnhardt and Randolph Gold Mines and became known as the richest mining territory east of the Mississippi.

Every Friday night the locals hang out, play bluegrass music and enjoy the simple life.  Every Friday night the locals hang out, play bluegrass music and enjoy the simple life.  *Sunday afternoon bluegrass has been added also.  Come visit us and browse the other shops in the Historic Village of Gold Hill, NC.  Wood sidewalks still connect the shops in a small town reminiscent of the OLD WEST.  The Montgomery, as it is fondly referred to, serves Hand-Dipped Hershey’s Ice Cream year round and also offers desserts, cold drinks and snacks.  During cool Fall and Winter weather thers’s always a pot of coffee brewing as well as Russian Tea and Hot Chocolate.   When the winter chill arrives Hoppy heats up the place with the Old Pot-Bellied Stove, creating a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere.
